I had come here as a stranger to the town, sensing its understanding of art and its importance in the context of the timelines of artists past and present. I had sketched in the harbour with a paintbox though the effort was limited. Time has marched on and new skills acquired to capture and present the details of a familiar scene. In oils the colours begin to faithfully lay themselves upon the surface of the wood panel. The boundaries of form also reveal their identity in considered hues. All is sharp and in focus - the close at hand and the more distant.
